History of SomeDogPark, Inc.

Spring/Summer 2006: Small group of local citizens gathered to discuss establishment of off-leash dog park in Somerset and formation of nonprofit organization for this purpose.

Fall 2006: Group approached Somerset Board of Selectmen requesting a dog park be established in Somerset and presented informational and statistical documentation in support of proposal. Somerset Board of Selectmen approved proposal but advised group that they would have to raise all funds for the endeavor.

Winter 2006: Organizational meeting held and public notice announced meeting. SDP Board of Directors established, and Officers elected, establishing SDP Executive Council.

Winter 2006/Spring 2007: Several meetings held to lay foundations of SDP. By-Laws and Conflict of Interest policy established, Articles of Organization and Public Charity documents filed with appropriate State authorities. Somerset Board of Selectmen designated Buffington Park as location for dog park.

Summer 2007: SDP held first fundraiser - Pizza for Pooches event on June 3 at Ma Raffa's restaurant, Somerset.

Fall 2007: FY2007 Annual Meeting held and FY2008 Officers elected. IRS Form 1023 filed. FY2007 Annual Report completed and posted. Work commenced on Program Plan. Certificate of Change of Officers filed with Secretary of Commonwealth. Application process for additional Board of Directors member(s) commenced.

Winter 2007: Notice received from IRS that 1023 application pending assignment. Program Plan developed and posted publicly. Website redesigned.

Winter 2007/Spring 2008: Fundraising plan developed and fundraising campaign begun.

May 2008: Participated in 9th Annual Walk for Animals and Pet Festival, New Bedford - our first fundraiser of 2008!

Summer 2008: Pet Lover Customer Appreciation Days

August 2008: 501(c)(3) approval received!

September 2008: Spirit of Somerset Pet Contest at Spirit of Somerset Festival.
